Pepe Reina injury latest
Pepe Reina is back in training at Melwood ahead of Liverpool's trip to Everton on Sunday and manager Brendan Rodgers has revealed he will assess the 'keeper's fitness levels over the coming days to see if he can feature in the game.
Reina sat out last Saturday's 1-0 victory over Reading after sustaining a hamstring injury while on international duty with Spain.
The stopper was also forced to watch from the stands as the Reds edged Anzhi Makhachkala in the Europa League on Thursday evening.
"Pepe is back in training," Rodgers told his pre-Everton press conference at Melwood. "So that's good news. He's working well and we'll assess him over the next 24/48 hours."
Brad Jones has proved to be an able deputy for the Reds' No.25, keeping consecutive clean sheets in Reina's absence.
And Rodgers admitted that he had full confidence in the Australian's ability to step between the sticks again on Sunday, should his services be called upon.
"Brad's been excellent," said Rodgers. "The goalkeepers join in a lot of our work in training. They get involved in a lot of the possession work. Brad's temperament has been excellent. I think he has come in and looked a real presence in the goal.
"The nature of his game has been good and when he has been asked to make a save he has. So I've been really pleased with Brad since he has come in and played a number of our Europa League games and done very well.
"You need that competition with goalkeepers."
Meanwhile the manager confirmed that there was no other injury news on top of the long-term injuries to Lucas Leiva, Fabio Borini and Martin Kelly.
Rodgers opted to field a host of first-team players for the clash against Anzhi as the Reds went on to secure top spot in Europa League Group A.
And when asked if the exertions of Thursday night's test against the difficult Russian outfit could have some impact on the squad's fitness levels for Sunday's game, the manager replied: "No - not at all.
"It's still very early on in the season. We've obviously got a small squad and we're playing a lot of games, so I just need to make sure that we manage that.
"My feeling was that we were at home [against Anzhi] and the physical condition of the players is very, very good. I see that on a daily basis and our medical sports science team here do a wonderful job in assisting the recuperation of the players.
"So they feel great and they are really looking forward to the game and I believe we will be in good condition for the weekend."
