Opta players stats: Everton
There is only one stat that really matters in football - the final score. And that was especially the case on Sunday afternoon when the Reds were forced to endure the bitter disappointment of watching a last-minute goal ruled-out at Goodison Park.
But here at Liverpoolfc.com we know supporters love to delve through the facts and figures after each game, so we're allowing you to do just that with the help of Opta.
And to make things a little clearer in the wake of a particularly chaotic Merseyside derby, we have broken down the statistics from the Reds' 2-2 draw against Everton into sections which outline how both sides fared in terms of possession, how they rated defensively and going forward.
Distribution
Steven Gerrard was Liverpool's most accurate passer, recording an 89.7 pass completion rate and creating two shot assists for his teammates. However, Everton captain Phil Neville was the most clinical player, in terms of distribution, out of those who played the full 90 minutes, with 94.2 per cent pass accuracy.
Gerrard fired nine crosses into Tim Howard's penalty area - the most successful of which was nodded home by Luis Suarez to double the Reds' lead on 20 minutes.
Leighton Baines touched the ball more than any other player on the field (87 times) while his teammates Leon Osman (74) and Seamus Coleman (70) both took more touches than any Liverpool player. Gerrard took 61 while alongside him, Joe Allen touched the ball 60 times.
Attacking
Kevin Mirallas was a stand-out player for Everton in the first half, causing Liverpool plenty of problems down the left channel and the statistics reflect the threat he posed.
The fact he was substituted with an injury at the interval make his stats from the game all the more impressive: he fired six crosses into the Liverpool box and struck at Brad Jones' goal twice from inside the penalty area. He won two tackles and drew two fouls from opposition players.
Everton registered 16 goal-attempts throughout the match compared to Liverpool's 13.
For the Reds, Suarez predictably led the way with six shots, five of which came from inside Tim Howard's penalty area. The Uruguayan forced Baines to put through his own net with one effort, doubled the Reds' lead with another and then should have clinched a truly memorable derby win in the dying embers of the game.
Gerrard was desperate to add to his career tally of eight goals in all competitions against the Blues as he fired three times at the Everton goal.
For the home side, Nikica Jelavic and Osman both tried their luck three times while Steven Naismith had one shot on goal which came from yards out and ultimately clinched a point for Everton on 35 minutes.
The fact that no Liverpool defender recorded a shot on goal bucks the trend of recent weeks in which Glen Johnson, who was absent due to injury on Sunday, has tested the opposition 'keeper.
Defence
The derby was one of the most open and free-flowing of recent times and the statistics show how both defences were kept busy, clearing the danger throughout a turbulent 90 minutes at Goodison.
Martin Skrtel broke up the play with four interceptions and Jose Enrique, alert down the left flank, made three. Phil Jagielka cut-out a Liverpool pass on six occasions while his central-defensive partner Sylvain Distin and full-back Baines each made four interceptions.
Between them, Skrtel and Daniel Agger played the ball to safety 30 times while Sebastian Coates, Andre Wisdom and Enrique combined to make a further 11 clearances.
