Brendan Rodgers has hinted Joe Cole will come into contention for tonight's Capital One Cup fourth-round tie with Swansea City – and has challenged the No.10 to make the most of any opportunity.

Injuries have meant Cole has made just three appearances so far in 2012-13, with his only start coming in the Europa League qualified against FC Gomel in Belarus on August 2.

Rodgers said: "It's been difficult for Joe.

"He worked hard throughout pre-season, then he got injured and others have come in and done well, so I'm not going to throw them to the garbage because a senior player is back and available again.

"It's an opportunity for Joe to come in and prove himself.

"He's worked hard, there are no complaints there, and he's very keen to be a success here at Liverpool.

"He wants to show his qualities and prove that he has a future here."
