Ladies sign England star Bonner
Liverpool Ladies have signed England centre-back Gemma Bonner.
Bonner has represented England at U17, U19, U20 and U23 level prior to her first senior-team call-up in March's UEFA Euro 2013 qualifier away to Croatia.
The 21-year-old has spent the last two seasons with Chelsea, where she played in the 2012 FA Cup final. Prior to that she played for her home town club Leeds United, with whom she was a League Cup winner in 2010 and an FA Cup runner-up in 2008.
Gemma said: "I am delighted to be joining Liverpool at a key time in my football career and have been greatly influenced by the commitment that Liverpool FC are showing towards women's football. When the opportunity to work with Matt again came I was pleased to take it and I am excited for the challenge ahead."
Gemma will pair up with US International Whitney Engen in central defence to give Liverpool Ladies a strong defensive core.
Liverpool manager Matt Beard said: "I'm delighted to be working with Gemma again. During my time at Chelsea she was consistent week in week out. Off the back of her hard work she was called into the England senior squad.
"She is a fantastic defender and I have no doubt in my mind that she will go onto be a regular in the England squad. She will be a great asset to Liverpool Ladies FC."
