Awards to pay tribute to families
Families of the 96 Liverpool fans who tragically lost their lives in the Hillsborough disaster are to be recognised at this year's Northwest Football Awards.
Organisers of the ceremony moved to arrange the tribute following the release of the Hillsborough Independent Panel report in September.
"The fight for justice that the families of the 96 victims of the Hillsborough disaster have been forced to endure over so many years deserves to be publically recognised, especially following the recent revelations," said Laura Wolfe, managing director of Journey9 who coordinate the Northwest Football Awards.
"These people have battled to ensure that responsibility for the tragedy is taken by those at fault and it's a fight that the football world has united in supporting.
"As we celebrate the footballing achievements of this fantastic region, it provides a perfect opportunity for us to pay tribute to family members of the victims and the Hillsborough Family Support Group, for the dedication and commitment they have shown in their fight for justice for the 96."
The Northwest Football Awards take place on Monday 12 November at Lancashire County Cricket Club's 'The Point'.
Martin Skrtel and Martin Kelly are in the running for awards at the ceremony.
