Young Reds lose in Norway
A youthful Liverpool U19 side lost 3-0 to Rosenborg in the NextGen Series in Norway on Friday evening.
With the likes of Conor Coady, Adam Morgan and Stephen Sama unavailable because of first-team duty in Russia, Rodolfo Borrell handed NextGen Series debuts to Scottish U18 stopper Ryan Fulton, left-back Joe Maguire and Czech defender Jakob Sokolik, while Swede Kristoffer Peterson made his first start in a central attacking role.
Borrell was also without the injured Brad Smith and striker Samed Yesil was also unavailable.
The game was watched by former Reds Vegard Heggem and Bjorn Tore Kvarme, and the home side stormed into a 3-0 lead inside the opening 30 minutes.
The young Reds battled in the second half and created some decent openings but they couldn't find a way back.
Liverpool face Rosenborg again on Tuesday night in the NextGen Series at St Helens Langtree Park. Admission is just £5 and the young Reds need your support. Kick-off will be at 7pm GMT.
Liverpool team: Fulton, McLaughlin, Maguire, Jones, Sokolik, Roddan, Ibe (Sinclair 76), Pelosi, Peterson, Adorjan, Gainford (Lussey 56).
Meanwhile, Borrell's U21s are flying high at the top of the U21 league. Second placed Wolves drew 0-0 with Middlesbrough on Friday night and Borrell's side are the only unbeaten U21 side in the country.
They are five points clear of Wolves with two games in hand.
