Carragher: We deserved it
Jamie Carragher paid tribute to Liverpool's battling qualities and insisted they were fully deserving of a point following the 1-1 draw with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
Luis Suarez's late header secured a share of the spoils for the Reds and cancelled out John Terry's opener in a hard-fought contest in London.
Carragher reflected: "In the first half, Chelsea were on top but in the second half we came out and it's great credit to the lads [we got a point].
"It's a tough place to come, they're flying high, but I think we probably deserved a point in the end because of the way we battled away in the second half."
Carragher was handed his first Barclays Premier League start of the season after illness ruled Martin Skrtel out.
The veteran centre-back has figured mainly in cup games so far this term and though he admits the league is a level up in quality, he's happy to help out when called upon.
Carragher added: "The Premier League is a step up. The Carling Cup and Europa League games are high pace, but the intensity of the Premier League [is different]. Chelsea is also a difficult place to come.
"But whether I play or not, I'll always be ready for the lads and the manager if he wants to put me in for certain games. Like every player you want to play, but it's down to the manager - he's the boss.
"I understand this stage of my career now. There are always going to be new players coming in. We're a top club that lots of players want to play for. We've got lots of internationals here and I understand what stage of my career I'm at.
"I'd never cause a problem here, I'm just delighted to be involved. If the manager needs me, I'll be ready."
Meanwhile, Jose Enrique paid tribute to Suarez after the No.7 headed his 11th of the season so far - and echoed Carragher's sentiments regarding the result.
He said: "Suarez is an amazing player. He is really clever and the key player for us.
"We played well, it's a difficult stadium [to come to], but we deserved a point.
"We were good defensively and the chances they had were from our mistakes. It (5-3-2) is another system for us to play and the manager decides which one we will use."
