Sterling set for England start
Raheem Sterling is set to win his first England cap in tonight's friendly with Sweden, manager Roy Hodgson has confirmed.
The 17-year-old will be handed a starting berth in Stockholm on a night when Liverpool teammate Steven Gerrard will notch up his 100th appearance for the Three Lions. Glen Johnson will also begin the contest.
Hodgson said: "In some of the Liverpool games I have seen, he [Sterling] has pretty much been the star player.
"He is extremely dangerous with his ability to run with the ball, his pace and directness. He has even scored one or two important goals.
"If he can do it on a regular basis for Liverpool in the Premier League I have every right to think he can do it playing for England as well."
At 17 years and 342 days old, Sterling will become the fifth-youngest player to represent England.
