You've done it! Petition passes 100k
An e-petition set up to help a dying mother gain justice for her son has reached its target of 100,000 signatures thanks to a huge online campaign by Liverpool fans.
Campaigners fighting to bring forward any new inquest into the death of Kevin Williams at Hillsborough in 1989 could now see their cause debated in Parliament.
They have utilised Twitter, social media and independent forums such as Red and White Kop to give the cause a massive push over the last few weeks - and now they have reached their target.
The petition followed news that Kevin's mother and long-time Hillsborough campaigner Anne Williams has terminal cancer.
The Attorney General applied for new inquests for all 96 victims following the Hillsborough Independent Panel report in September - but no timescale has yet been set.
The target of 100,000 signatures was required for the issue to be considered for debate in Parliament.
Liverpool Football Club backed the e-petition with a series of news stories on the official website, links at the bottom of news stories, an email to more than 130,000 UK fans as well as staff, a message in the Wigan programme, and leaflets and a PA announcement at Saturday's game.
