Pascoe: Let's do it again
Colin Pascoe has challenged the Reds to produce a repeat performance of their victory in Switzerland when Young Boys visit Anfield in the Europa League on Thursday.
An inexperienced Liverpool side ran out 5-3 winners in the opening match of Group A, and progress to the knockout phase is now within reach if three points are secured.
"It's very important. Out there we played very well, got some great goals and a great result. On Thursday we want a great performance and the same result," the assistant manager told Liverpoolfc.com.
The other match in the section, between Anzhi Makhachkala and Udinese, will finish before the Reds take to the field, and qualification could be sealed with a win if the Italians fail in Russia.
"They kick off early, we'll know their result and if we beat Young Boys, we're virtually through. I'm sure we'll be told what the score is," Pascoe continued.
"Win the game, that's the most important thing. Go out, prepare well - it will be a tough game.
"Young Boys have had some good results, they beat Udinese home and away, and they're on six points the same as us. So they'll know themselves that if they get a good result, they can go through.
"They're a good side and they played well out there, it was a tough game. They've had two good results and I'm sure they'll be looking like ourselves that if we get a good result then it virtually guarantees going through.
"It's a very important game for us - we want to qualify and hopefully we do it on Thursday. But there's a lot of games and fixtures coming up so we've got to look at all the games and pick the team which is suited to beat Young Boys."
Brendan Rodgers' No.2 admitted that although he would prefer the kind of result the Reds achieved against Wigan on Saturday rather than the one in Switzerland, a win is all that matters.
Pascoe concluded: "5-3 is great for the fans but a 2-0 or 3-0, like we did on Saturday with a good performance, we'll take a 3-0 again. But you want to win the game, and if it takes a 5-3 then it's 5-3.
"We've been playing well and on Saturday, especially in the second half where we played well. You get the goal, it gives you confidence for the lads to push on and get the two and three.
"Fair play to Wigan, early on they caused us a lot of problems until we changed a few little things. They caused us a lot of difficulties, especially in midfield where they were passing the ball around.
"Once we got to grips with that, we got the goal and it gave the lads that confidence."
