BR: In time we can be title contenders
Brendan Rodgers believes there is no reason why Liverpool can't challenge for the Barclays Premier League title over the coming years.
The manager was talking to Robbie Savage at Anfield as part of a recording for the BBC's Football Focus programme.
And Rodgers insisted that while building the club to the level where they can be contenders will take time, he feels the fans deserve the success.
Asked by Savage if he believed the Reds could win the league in the near future, Rodgers replied: "I think over time but I'm not saying we will tomorrow.
"There's absolutely no reason why we can't [challenge] over the next numbers of years. Sometimes you've got to drop a few levels before you build. We'll get there in the end. There's absolutely no question about that. As a group of supporters, these fans deserve it.
"There's no doubt we want to arrive into the Champions League and play at the top level of European football. As a manager and coach, you want to win every year. You go out to win the league and this is a club that deserves to win it."
Savage also quizzed the manager about the league's leading goalscorer Luis Suarez, who will be eager to emulate John Barnes and John Aldridge by scoring in five consecutive away league games when Liverpool face Swansea on Sunday.
Rodgers said: "When you train with him, you can see why managers and coaches love him and why supporters idolise him because he gives his all.
"His performance levels have been incredible, he trains every single day, he's never injured and never in the medical room.
"Working with this guy is just an absolute dream."
