Anfield is third in PL numbers table
Liverpool have been watched live by the third highest number of fans since the Premier League began, new statistics reveal.
Tonight's fixtures at the Stadium of Light and Villa Park will see the Premier League welcome its 250 millionth fan through the turnstiles, 20 years on from its inception in August 1992.
In that time, Liverpool have hosted 16,491,290 fans - third only to Manchester United (24,397,959) and Arsenal (17,036,537).
Ahead of tonight's fixtures, 249,949,825 fans have witnessed 3,215 players battle it out in 7,975 games, scoring a total of 20,955 goals.
The stats, collated by the division's main sponsors Barclays, show the league's increased popularity, with average attendances rising from 21,131 in 1992 to 35,767 this season.
Premier League chief executive Richard Scudamore said: "The Premier League is now the most watched and supported football league in the world.
"We have grown from nine million supporters in the 1992-92 season through to 13 million plus in each of the last four seasons, and this campaign our grounds are currently 95 per cent full.
"Importantly the audience for Premier League football has never been more diverse: 23 per cent of attending fans are female, 11 per cent are black or ethnic minority and 13 per cent of season ticket holders are children."
