Enrique: My goalscoring mission
Brendan Rodgers is keen for his wingers to attack the penalty area and aid Luis Suarez in the goalscoring stakes - and Jose Enrique is happy to help.
The Spaniard, who is relishing life in the left-wing position, was unlucky to be denied his second goal in as many Barclays Premier League games when his strike against Swansea was ruled out on Sunday.
However, undeterred, Enrique insists he will continue to attack dangerous areas and make himself available for goals, as he looks to grow into the advanced role.
"The manager has told Raheem and myself over the last few weeks that we have to help out in the box and score goals," he explained to Liverpoolfc.com.
"Every team needs to [get bodies in the penalty area]. If you put crosses in, you need people in the box. Otherwise no-one will be there to finish the chance. So I try to arrive as much as I can.
"In every game you see goals like [the one I scored against Wigan] where players are arriving near the goalline and they have just one touch to put the ball in the net.
"You don't have to score an amazing goal all the time. So I think it's really important to try and be in those positions and get goals from there.
"I think I can score more goals. Against Swansea I was unlucky. Even now I don't really know if it was offside or not. I've seen it two or three times already and I am not sure. But it is already in the past, so I'm not going to worry about it.
"If I continue to play in the left-wing position then I am definitely going to try and get more goals because in that position you have to.
"I like playing on the wing because I really like to go and attack, like everyone does. Most people prefer to attack than defend. That's just normal.
"I really enjoy playing with Luis as well and I think we have a good connection. We understand each other and I have really enjoyed playing there with him."
Enrique might be gunning for more goals and relishing his new role but the winger knows he still has plenty to learn - especially if he is to emulate the success of full-back turned attacker Gareth Bale, who he will face at White Hart Lane tonight.
"Me and Bale are different players but what I want to do is to try and help the team like he does at Tottenham," Enrique said.
"At the moment I play more comfortably in the left-back role because I have played there for most of my career. But even in the left-back position I still have plenty to improve on.
"And on the wing I have a lot more to improve because I have only played a few games there.
"Sometimes I defend too much. I think like a left-back sometimes because it's my natural position. Sometimes I should stay forward for counter-attacks. If I improve these things, then I will improve my overall game."
The last time the Reds travelled to White Hart Lane it was Enrique's fifth outing in a Liverpool shirt and a day to forget when they faced Harry Redknapp's Tottenham in September 2011.
Kenny Dalglish's men were dismantled on the day as the home side put four without reply past Pepe Reina.
However, Enrique feels the Liverpool team who will arrive in North London tonight are a different proposition to the one which was heavily beaten last time round.
"I remember that game a lot," he admitted. "It was one of the worst games we have played since I came here.
"I think we have improved a lot because we have plenty of different players here in the squad. And you can see how in games we have a lot of possession and we are all still working hard to improve, like any team with a new manager.
"But we have a good team. We can beat them. I am really convinced that we can go there and beat Tottenham."
