BR: Decisions will have to come
Brendan Rodgers believes Liverpool have suffered from a lack of decisions going their way so far this season and suggested that the second half of the campaign could see a change of fortune for his team.
The Reds had two penalty claims rejected during their 2-1 defeat by Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday, and the boss felt the match was a reflection of the season overall in that regard.
Asked if he expected a penalty to be awarded at White Hart Lane, either for Steven Gerrard or Luis Suarez, the manager said: "I thought we should have had two. It's incredible.
"We haven't had a penalty [this season]. All the stats will tell you we've been in the penalty box as much as anyone.
"We know we need to be more clinical but to arrive at this stage of the season and not have had a penalty - I don't know what the players have to do!
"Gerrard's was nearly assault, how was that not a penalty? Second one, Suarez spins and William Gallas swings his left foot and he goes down.
"Nothing's going for us and that's how it's been throughout the season. I could go through a whole raft of penalty and offside decisions that are actually pretty straightforward.
"Look at Swansea at the weekend and Everton away. Sunderland away we should have had a penalty, Norwich away we should have had a penalty, we should have had at least one tonight.
"It racks up the points and I hear people and pundits say it evens itself out over the season - so the second half of the season we're going to get a lot of decisions."
Despite his frustration with the decisions on the night, the Northern Irishman could not fault his side's showing and picked out the skipper for particular praise.
The boss added: "We're bitterly disappointed having dominated the game. We gave away the goals early on and the second from a free-kick that was never a free-kick.
"I've got to say, you'll struggle to come here, play as well as that and not get anything. I thought the players were outstanding, we would have been disappointed to have got only a point having played so well.
"The performance level and our tempo and rhythm were relentless. If we keep playing like that, we'll climb up the table.
"Steven Gerrard was magnificent tonight, his leadership and the way he drove the team, the quality of his passing, his responsibility and leadership was great."
With talk turning to potential reinforcements, Rodgers refuted the notion that the next transfer window will provide an immediate fix - and highlighted tonight's opponents as an example to follow.
"January won't be the answer to everything, this is a process that's going to take time. Look at this Tottenham squad here, we've all seen this build up over the last three or four years," the 39-year-old concluded.
"It's taken them six or seven windows and they've got a really strong squad. We're at the beginning of a cycle that will hopefully take us there.
"While we're still defining our game, we'll lose some matches like tonight. Our performance level was very encouraging."
