Jose: We must make possession count
Jose Enrique believes Liverpool need to turn possession into penetration if they are to start picking up points and climbing the Barclays Premier League table.
The Spaniard turned in another impressive performance in the advanced role as Brendan Rodgers' side pegged Tottenham back to 2-1 at White Hart Lane but were unfortunate not to claim a point on Wednesday night.
And Enrique is convinced the results will come if the Reds continue to show the level of performance they have turned in against the league's top sides so far this season.
"It's difficult when you are playing well and not getting points," said Enrique. "But we are playing against good teams and playing better than them.
"We are playing really good football and we need to keep playing like this. Possession is important but as the manager says the most important thing is possession with penetration.
"We scored one and we had chances to score a lot more goals but we didn't take them. It is so frustrating because the team is playing well and we deserve a lot more points than we have got.
"We just have to forget about the table when we are on the pitch and just focus on that game.
"I hope the results will soon come. We say it every week but we have to take our chances. We need points to get to the top four which is where we need to be.
"We were very unlucky to lose. They scored two quick goals and from 2-0 down it was difficult to come back but the team did well."
Despite the result, Enrique posed a significant threat out on the left wing, bombing on into the penalty area to support Luis Suarez and Raheem Sterling.
And the 26-year-old admits he is relishing life in the attacking role.
"I'm enjoying the games because I am playing and I am fit after the problem with my knee," he said. "I am happy with how I am playing and I'll play wherever the manager wants me.
"But the most important thing for me is to win the game. I would prefer to play a lot worse and for us to win."
Asked about the decision to not award a penalty when Steven Gerrard went to ground in the box after a challenge from Mousa Dembele, Enrique replied: "We had some decisions which weren't very good and we are disappointed, but it's gone now and we can't do anything about it.
"We need to think about the next game. If we keep playing like this then the points will come."
