Reds seek 1999 re-run v Saints
Liverpool will be hoping for a re-run of their January 1999 clash against Southampton when they face Saints at Anfield on Saturday.
That meeting between the two ended 7-1 to Gerard Houllier's men and remains the club's biggest win in the Premier League. Here are some more interesting facts ahead of the weekend's clash from club statistician Ged Rea.
The last time Liverpool and Southampton met was in 2004-05 when the Reds won 1-0 at Anfield thanks to a Florent Sinama-Pongolle goal.
The Reds have lost three of the last four league meetings but have suffered defeat in only five of the last 22 home and away in the league.
In the Premier League the sides have met 26 times - Liverpool winning 12 and Southampton seven.
At Anfield, Liverpool have recorded seven wins with two defeats and four draws.
Robbie Fowler is the only Liverpool player to score a hat-trick against the Saints. He did so twice, in October 1993 and January 1999.
Jonjo Shelvey scored the first league goal of his career against Southampton as a Charlton player in April 2009. His team won 3-2.
Saints' last win at Anfield came in December 2003 when they led after just 74 seconds through Brett Ormerod.
At Anfield, Southampton have won only three of their last 36 league games, with the Reds winning 24 of them.
Only two of the 74 League meetings have produced a goalless draw - both at Anfield. The last of those came in May 2000.
The last Southampton hat-trick against Liverpool was scored by Matt Le Tissier at the Dell. His goals included two penalties and secured a 4-2 win for his side.

Their best season in the top-flight came in 1983-84 when they finished as runners-up to Liverpool.
Since 2000 Southampton have had 13 managers. Nigel Adkins was appointed in September 2010.
He took charge of the Saints for the 100th time in the league last weekend against Newcastle and has won 56 of his games as manager.
Saints are unbeaten in their last four games, taking eight points from a possible 12.
They have failed to score in only two of their league games this season and in only one of the last 12.
Last Sunday they became the final team in the top flight to keep a clean sheet when defeating Newcastle 2-0 at St Mary's.
