'We're starting to play without thinking'
Joe Cole believes Liverpool's players have developed a certain intuitiveness in the way they play - and insists this ability to play without thinking is a hallmark of any successful side.
Cole enjoyed a seven-year trophy-laden spell at Chelsea, during which he collected three league titles and three FA Cup winners' medals, before making the switch to Anfield in 2010.
And the 31-year-old insists he is starting to see the same sort of on-field chemistry emerge within the ranks at Melwood.
"You don't just learn on a game-by-game basis, you learn day-by-day and minute-by-minute," he told Liverpoolfc.com. "It's about understanding each other and understanding the system.
"You learn every day on the training ground, working on doing the right things, so that when you go on the pitch, these things are just ingrained into you.
"Whenever I played at successful teams throughout my career, it's been like that. You play and don't think, because you have already done the work.
"And from what I can see, we are getting towards that. You can see players doing things without thinking now - it's coming to them naturally rather than them hesitating. We're in a good moment."
Cole was also keen to echo the sentiments of manager Brendan Rodgers, who has recently hailed the manner with which his side have adjusted to the footballing philosophy he has been seeking to implement at Anfield.
"Everyone thinks things happen overnight in football - they don't," said Cole. "There's a lot of work that goes on day in and day out
"The fans have been patient and they are intelligent supporters - they've seen great players and great teams over the years - and they know that we are going forward. The results are starting to come now as well, which is important."
At 31, Cole is one of the most experienced players in a Liverpool squad which has blooded plenty of young talent since the start of the season.
Suso, Andre Wisdom and Raheem Sterling have all made an impact for Rodgers at the highest level over the past four months - and Cole insists the youngsters are as keen as ever to keep improving.
"At that age, you are like a sponge if you want to learn," he said. "We have a great manager here who is a coach first and foremost. He's giving them the right advice and telling them what to do and they are doing it to the letter, to be fair.
"They have been a credit, not only to the first team, but to everyone working at the Academy."
Liverpool will now look to build on back-to-back wins in the league and attempt to scale the table by making home advantage count in their two upcoming fixtures against Aston Villa and Fulham.
And Cole is adamant the Reds can enjoy a successful Christmas period in time to re-evaluate their end of season targets come early January.
"I think the Christmas period is one of the most important periods of the season," he said. "Once you get the game out of the way on January 2, you can have a look at the table and re-evaluate your targets.
"As it happens, the fixture list [over Christmas] has been quite kind to us on paper. So we have an opportunity to really string some wins together and hopefully, come January 3, we can start to look at the table and think about going forward."
