Brendan Rodgers has revealed Liverpool's medical staff will assess the fitness levels of Jose Enrique on Friday afternoon and again on Saturday morning to see if the Spaniard is able to feature against Aston Villa at Anfield.

Enrique, who was voted Player of the Month for November by Reds fans, was withdrawn against West Ham at Upton Park during the first half of Sunday's thrilling 3-2 win.

And Rodgers insisted that if the full-back is unable to play against the Villains on Saturday, he will almost certainly be available to face Fulham the following weekend.

Asked what sort of shape his squad was in going into the clash against Paul Lambert's side, the manager responded: "We're okay - we've just got [to take] a final look at Jose Enrique to see how he is.

"He was very tight going into last weekend's game. We tried him in the game but he couldn't get through any more than the opening half an hour.

"He has responded well to treatment this week.

"We'll see how he is later on today and tomorrow morning. If he's not right for tomorrow then he should be fine for next week."
