Liverpool's young players will don black armbands during the final of the NexLions Cup in Singapore on Sunday in memory of those who lost their lives in America's worst ever school massacre.

The Reds, who will feature US-born midfielder Marc Pelosi (pictured) in the starting line-up, wanted to express their sorrow to the people of Pelosi's home country.

The shooting, which occurred on Friday in Connecticut, claimed the lives of 28 people, including 20 young children, after the gunman, armed with two automatic pistols, burst into a kindergarten class and began firing indiscriminately.

Eighteen children were pronounced dead at the scene while a further two later died at hospital.

"I heard about it late on Friday night, after we got back to the hotel from the match," said Pelosi.

"I think I saw it come up on Twitter and then started hearing more and more about what had happened.

"I don't really know what to say -  it's just so shocking. A kindergarten class as well - those kids were so young.

"We can't do much but hopefully by us wearing the black armbands, people back home will know that the Liverpool players are thinking about them."
