Skrtel's tattoo tribute to the 96
Martin Skrtel tried his hand at tattooing for the first time at a charity inking session held to raise money for the Hillsborough families - and you can watch a free clip of the event now.
The Reds defender was the special guest as 96 football fans gathered at the Royal Ink studio on Breck Road, a short walk from Anfield, to get special tattoos and raise £1,000 for the ongoing fight for justice.
Skrtel played his part by donating a signed shirt and helping to put the finishing touches to an eternal flame tattoo on the back of volunteer and Liverpool FC employee Barry Nicholls.
"Martin agreed to come and pledge his support, which we were really pleased about," said Barry.
"We thought he had done tattooing before, so to find out he hadn't when he turned up was a little alarming, to say the least. But someone talked him through it and he said I was a great sport for letting him do it."
While the Slovakian was delighted to get involved, he was also aware of the context of the event and the reasons behind the unusual fundraiser.
"Before I came here I didn't know a lot about Hillsborough but once I got used to being at the club, I started to understand what had happened," said Skrtel.
"I think it is great that the Liverpool supporters and the club have stuck together to fight for justice for the victims of the Hillsborough tragedy."
