Reds complete 96-mile Rose Walk
A group of dedicated Reds fans walked 96 miles from Sheffield to Liverpool in memory of the 96 supporters who lost their lives at Hillsborough in 1989.
So far they have raised just over £11,000 for the Hillsborough Family Support Group and the Hillsborough Justice Campaign, and the walkers are optimistic they will reach their initial target of £15,000.
They set off on their journey at 7am on Friday, December 14 at the Leppings Lane end of Hillsborough Stadium and concluded the walk by laying 96 roses at the memorial at Anfield a day later.
The walk involved a core team of 12 people, with three members at a time taking on six-mile stages and the overall crew joining together for the finish.
All of those who took part were Liverpool supporters, with many based outside the city but determined to contribute to the memory of the 96 people who lost their lives in 1989.
Along the lengthy journey, the home grounds of Bolton Wanderers, Bury, Everton, Huddersfield Town, Oldham Athletic, Manchester City and Wigan Athletic were visited.
As they passed Goodison, the walkers handed over a specially commissioned banner to thank the Blues for their continuing support in the 23-year fight for justice.
In return, the Rose Walk team were presented with a 'Remembering the 96' Everton shirt, which will be put on display in the Liverpool museum.
Former Reds Dominic Matteo and Neil Mellor also turned out to show their support - as did ex-Great Britain Rugby League star Bobbie Goulding, who was joined by his two sons.
Mike Wilson, a survivor of the disaster, jointly organised the event and was joined by his 81-year-old father, Dave, a lifelong Liverpool supporter, for the closing stage of the walk.
