Agger: Our resolution for 2013
Daniel Agger believes Liverpool's New Year's resolution needs to be trying to find a greater level of consistency in the Barclays Premier League.
The centre-back feels the manner of the Reds' recent comprehensive victories over Fulham and Queens Park Rangers make the 3-1 Boxing Day defeat at Stoke City all the more frustrating.
And as Brendan Rodgers' men prepare for their first fixture of 2013 against Sunderland at Anfield this evening, Agger is hoping they can embark on a winning run and climb the table by turning in similar performances to the one that saw them prevail 3-0 at Loftus Road on a regular basis.
"We can't keep playing a good game and then a bad game," he said. "It would be easy if we could say 'that is the problem'. Then we could go away and work on it. But I can't understand it.
"When you play for a football club like this you need to be motivated every single week. It doesn't matter what the result was the previous week. If you don't have that motivation then you shouldn't be here.
"We're not happy with where we are in the table. It's not good enough and we want to get higher.
"The only way we can do that is to put a run of wins together. We need to get three points against Sunderland."
He added: "It hurts when you concede goals like we did at Stoke. When you concede goals it's usually down to mistakes and we made far too many of them in that game. We were better against QPR and now we need to continue in that way."
Meanwhile, Agger paid tribute to the form of Luis Suarez, who took his goal tally for the season so far to 16 with a brace against QPR on Sunday.
"Luis is exactly what we need up front - he's different class," he said. "He really is unplayable at times. He's like that in training every day. It's unbelievable to watch him."
