Sturridge: I enjoyed that!
Daniel Sturridge reflected on his goalscoring debut in the FA Cup win over Mansfield and declared - I enjoyed that.
It took our new No.15 just seven minutes to open his Liverpool account, with substitute Luis Suarez scoring the other in a 2-1 win.
Afterwards Sturridge told ESPN: "I enjoyed it very much. It was my first game for the team, and it was great to get to know my teammates on the field and to win the game.
"It was a great ball from Shelvey and I got on the end of it and put it away.
"I am disappointed [I didn't get more goals] but the team played fantastically and showed a lot of character, and I'm delighted with the win."
A goal from Matt Green in the second half prompted a nervy ending for Liverpool as the non-league side put up an admirable fight.
Jamie Carragher led the resistance, and afterwards he commented: "We'd have liked to have put it to bed after an early goal, a great goal from Daniel, but that's what the FA Cup is.
"It was a brilliant game for everyone at home to watch, a bit nervy for our fans and ourselves on the pitch.
"Coming away from home with a big atmosphere and the pitch, it was going to be a difficult game. Credit to them, they were brilliant and their support was brilliant.
"That's what the FA Cup is about."
On the performance of Sturridge during his 55-minute run-out, Carragher added: "It was a great debut and a goal. You could see that bit of class from him, showing a bit of pace and going in behind.
"We were playing non-league opposition, so you'd expect it, but I'm sure he'll do that against Premier League defences, and that's what we want to see."
Sturridge was replaced by Suarez, who quickly got his name on the scoresheet via an inadvertent hand-ball.
Carragher said: "For me there were a lot of deflections going on and it bounced off him and went in. Sometimes these things happen."
