Goals from Jerome Sinclair and Daniel Trickett-Smith saw Liverpool get off to a great start as they beat Aspire Qatar 2-0 in the opening game of the Al Kass Cup on Monday.

Steve Cooper's side are competing in the prestigious tournament in Qatar and made a perfect start.

Cooper told Liverpoolfc.com: "It was a tough game against the host tournament team and they were out to impress.

"It was our first game and you have to get used to the different conditions from which we are used to.

"The first half was very even and we told the boys to pass the ball better in the second half. We managed to do that and scored two good goals and played some good stuff."

Liverpool U18s team: Fulton, Cleary (Brannagan), Maguire, Jones, Heaton, Randall, Ibe, Rossiter, Sinclair (Roubles), Trickett-Smith, O'Hanlon (Kent).

The young Reds are back in action tomorrow (Tuesday) when they face Esperance. The top two teams in each group progress to the knockout stages.

The quarter-finals get underway next Friday, with the final set to be held on Thursday, February 7. PSG were crowned the inaugural champions in 2012 after beating Juventus on penalties.

Cooper added: "Tuesday will be another test for us and another 90 minutes for the lads but we are looking forward to it.

"This is a great tournament and it's a real pleasure to be here. It's a great experience for the boys."
