LFC to help judge 'Scouse Mercury'
Liverpool FC have thrown their support behind a prestigious award that aims to support and celebrate local musical talent for the second year running.
The GIT Award 2013 will take place in Liverpool in April and, as in 2012, the club will be assisting with the judging process.
Named after Liverpool music blog Getintothis and dubbed 'The Scouse Mercury Prize', the award champions new music within the city.
This year, the winner will collect £1,000 in prize money at the ceremony which will be held in Leaf on Bold Street on April 19.
An official shortlist will be announced in March and will be drawn together by a 12-strong judging panel including a representative from LFC, 6 Music's Tom Ravenscroft, Q editor Andrew Harrison and NME radar editor Matt Wilkinson.
Last year local band 'Loved Ones' scooped the inaugural award ahead of the other 11 nominees which included Merseyside acts Stealing Sheep, MOBO winner Esco Williams and buzz band Outfit.
Paul Rogers, LFC's head of international digital development and GIT Award judge, said: "The GIT Award was a fantastic breath of fresh air for the Merseyside music scene - giving new Liverpool artists a brilliant platform to showcase their music to a new, national audience."
The award invites acts to submit four of their own tracks, with the only criteria being that the record was made in Liverpool or produced or recorded by Liverpudlians.
Paul Du Noyer, author of Liverpool Wondrous Place and music journalist, said: "Liverpool's musical heritage is great but Liverpool's future is more interesting. I love GIT for the glimpse it gives of Liverpool's musical future."
Among the other judges are the cornerstones of the Liverpool music scene, Liverpool ECHO journalist and editor of Getintothis Peter Guy, Craig G Pennington, editor of Liverpool music magazine Bido Lito! and Juice FM's deputy programme editor Johnny Collins.
"It's shaping up to be a superb second year," Peter Guy told Liverpoolfc.com. "I'm thrilled with the judging panel for the GIT Award 2013 and delighted LFC have again thrown their support behind the awards."
The winning set-list could be anything from pop, rock and roll, country, dance, soul, hip-hop or jazz with the aim being to reflect Liverpool's rich heritage in all genres of music.
So if you think you have what it takes, then why not pit yourself against the best of Liverpool's flourishing music scene and make sure you apply before February 28, 2013.
Simply send four tracks to getintothis@gmail.com or alternatively post to Peter Guy, The GIT Award, Liverpool Daily Post & ECHO, PO Box 48, Old Hall Street, Liverpool, L69 3EB.
