Reds launch @LFCBrasil Twitter
Liverpool's Brazilian fans will be able to follow the progress of Philippe Coutinho on the club's new Twitter account @LFCBrasil, which was first unveiled on Monday.
The Portuguese-language account - a first for an English Premier League club - aims to better connect LFC supporters in Brazil and Portugal with the club they follow. As well as tweeting breaking news daily in local language, @LFCBrasil will act as a hub for all things LFC, helping fans engage with not just the club but also fellow supporters.
The Twitter account is the second social media initiative from LFC this year specifically aimed at Brazilian fans, following the launch on January 8 of the Portuguese-language Instagram account LFCBrasil.
While today's signing of Coutinho will no doubt attract new supporters from his homeland, the club have been the English team of choice for many Brazilian football fans ever since 1981, when the Reds played and lost to a Flamengo side featuring the legendary Zico in the Intercontinental Cup in Tokyo.
But if the club's rich history and European success was the initial attraction for Brazilian fans in the late 70s and early 80s, a new generation of supporters have grown up watching Lucas Leiva establish himself as one of the most popular players at Anfield in recent years and with the arrival today of Coutinho, the club's Brazilian fan base is only likely to grow bigger.
