Young Reds make special Qatar trip
Liverpool's Academy players took time out from their busy schedule in Qatar to pay a visit to the Shafallah Center, a foundation for excellence caring for children with disabilities.
The club's U18s starlets are currently over in Asia competing in the prestigious Al Kass Cup against the likes of Real Madrid and Inter Milan.
And on Tuesday they witnessed first-hand the fine work being carried out at the centre, which works in partnership with Liverpool's main sponsor Standard Chartered.
Liverpool Academy director Frank McParland said: "Our boys don't clean the boots and baths of the first-team players anymore. Instead they learn about responsibility through working with the community.
"Standard Chartered are the club's main sponsor and they work very closely with the Shafallah Center, so we wanted to meet the staff and young people and see first-hand the great work of the centre."
The Shafallah Center was established in 1999 to provide comprehensive services to children with disabilities and was the first facility of its kind in world.
The centre offers state-of-the-art technologies including an on-site Genetic Research Centre, cutting-edge therapies and first-class faculty and counsellors.
A non-profit, private institution, it serves as a model for the provision of special education, therapeutic and health care support services for children with disabilities, aiding them from birth to adulthood.
