Colin Pascoe offered an insight into the bourgeoning strike partnership currently being fashioned between Daniel Sturridge and Luis Suarez.

In the four games since his arrival on January 2, Sturridge has netted three times while Suarez has added three more goals to his already impressive Barclays Premier League tally.

The pair have combined fluently and the full potential of their partnership was evidenced against Norwich at Anfield when Sturridge dummied and Suarez intuitively raced onto the ball to sweep home.

"Their link-up has been fantastic recently," Pascoe told reporters gathered at Melwood. "We've seen it in training and in the matches. You can see them looking for each other, looking to play each other in.

"Good players will always find half a yard with their partner and I think they have been great so far. They work on certain things in training but they have naturally gelled great together.

"Once you put them both together, the football takes over. You see the footballing intelligence and the footballing finesse that they both have."

Questioned as to whether he thought 17-goal Suarez, who fired after five minutes against Arsenal midweek, is the best striker in England at the moment, Pascoe replied: "Yes. Definitely.

"Him and Robin Van Persie are great players. You've also got Wayne Rooney and plenty of others but we're glad that Luis has signed his contract and is playing for us.

"He loves Liverpool, he loves being here. He's arguably in the form of his life under Brendan."

The assistant manager also reserved special praise for Jordan Henderson, who notched his second goal in consecutive Premier League games for the club courtesy of a fine solo effort against the Gunners.

The 22-year-old is brimming with confidence but remains completely dedicated to improving his game, according to Pascoe.

He said: "Jordan's doing brilliantly. He has played in a lot of different positions and he has excelled.

"He's confident but he is still quiet and humble and he works hard. He's been playing and he's been playing well. He's scored goals and shown on the pitch just how much he is enjoying his football at the moment.

"He can go as far as he wants to go [in his career]. He'll take it one step at a time. He works hard in training and in each game.

"He might be asked to play in different positions but he'll always put the shift in. The way he has responded has been superb."

The England U21 international will be eager to turn in another impressive display when Liverpool travel to the Etihad on Sunday to face second-placed Manchester City.

"They are the champions and they are the team everyone wants to beat," said Pascoe.

"We gave a fantastic performance against Arsenal. The way we passed the ball and the way we pressed them was good. They are formidable at the Emirates and they have a great team. They want to get on the ball as well.

"So far this season, against the likes of Manchester City and Manchester United at home, we have played well. Even away against Everton, if you take out the decision that didn't go our way, we could have won that game.

"We could have got something at Tottenham and perhaps something at Old Trafford and it was the same at Arsenal.

"Our performances against these clubs show how we could have easily had more points there. But we're taking every game as it comes and we'll just try and get as high as possible."

With Pascoe confirming that new signing Coutinho will play no part in the Reds' trip to Manchester at the weekend, the Welshman insisted he is relishing the prospect of settling the Brazilian into training at Melwood and seeing what he can do.

"We got the targets we wanted [in the transfer window]," said Pascoe. "Daniel and Coutinho are two very young strikers and we're looking forward to working with them. What they bring to the squad in terms of style will really enhance it.

"Coutinho is a young lad who loves to get on the ball, loves taking defenders on and has great vision and awareness of his teammates and he will be a great addition to the squad."
