Liverpool's U18s wrap up their Al Kass International Cup campaign with a fixture against Aspire Qatar on Tuesday, with coach Steve Cooper championing his players' efforts during the past week.

The young Reds were narrowly eliminated at the quarter-final stage by Inter Milan and then suffered a comeback defeat to Real Madrid in their play-off after taking a first-half advantage.

Now Cooper hopes his charges can finish the tournament on a high by securing seventh place, but insisted that results are not all important at this level.

"It would be nice to get a win, of course, but I'm more interested in our style and I'm very happy with that," he told Liverpoolfc.com.

"Some of the football we've played in both games has been rewarding. We believe we can match any outfit.

"It has been fine margins. It has been a learning experience for the players of how important the small margins are.

"That's what you have to do at the top level. We've fallen victim to that in terms of the results.

"But it won't overshadow the performances. We've got an open mind and we're looking at the glass as half-full. The players can only gain from a competition like this."

The final match gets underway at 4.30pm local time (1.30pm GMT) on Tuesday.
