Ahead of his fight with Tony Thompson on Saturday night, British and Commonwealth heavyweight boxing champion David Price selects his top five players who shook the Kop.

5. John Barnes
The reason I'm putting John at number five is because I got to see his latter years. Before that he was phenomenal. He was just an unbelievable player. When he got a few injuries and lost his pace he dropped back into central midfield and his footballing brain was fantastic. One thing that stands out for me was when he hit the post from a free-kick in the 1992 FA Cup semi-final then Ronnie Whelan followed it in to score. Barnes created that goal and saved us on the day, but the footage I've seen of him earlier in his Liverpool career he was just phenomenal.
4. Michael Owen
I was going to put Michael in my top three but because he went to Manchester United I'm putting him at four. He was unbelievable. Coming onto the scene when he was 17, and you see some of these players turning up now and they haven't got a patch on the Michael Owens of this world. We were lucky to have such a fantastic talent at the club and when he came in he was absolutely unbelievable. He was doing things that you can only dream of doing on a computer game. He was running around that many players, his pace was unbelievable and I'll never forget that FA Cup final in Cardiff. He would have been higher than number four had he not gone to Man United.
3. Steve McManaman
He was a local lad and he carried Liverpool for a few seasons. Although we only won one trophy with him some of the things he did in a game were just superb - he could run a game on his own. He could dribble, he could keep hold of the ball and he scored some fantastic goals. The one against Celtic at Parkhead I remember when he ran half the length of the pitch to score. He was probably one of the most exciting players to watch as when he got the ball you knew something was going to happen.
2. Robbie Fowler
Probably the only sporting hero that I've ever had. He was my idol and he was unbelievable. Another local lad, he was probably the best finisher we have ever had at the club. I'd put him ahead of Ian Rush for finishing but, like Barnes, I didn't get to see Rushie in his prime. Fowler, between 1993 and 1997, how on earth he didn't win a league title with Liverpool I do not know because he was scoring 30 goals a season every year, and if it wasn't for Alan Shearer he would have won the Golden Boot every year. Where do you start with Fowler? My favourite Fowler goal would have to be against Aston Villa in the FA Cup semi-final when he took the ball down on his chest and volleyed it into the top corner.
1. Steven Gerrard
My number one and probably a lot of people's number one is Steven Gerrard. Without him in the last 10 years I don't know where we would be but we definitely wouldn't have had the Champions League in Istanbul. He has scored brilliant goals, has carried us, the FA Cup final against West Ham - there are that many things. The club owes an awful lot to Steven.
