Liverpool Ladies will get their Women's Super League Continental Cup campaign underway with a Merseyside derby clash - and the match will be shown live on ESPN.

Matt Beard's rejuvenated side host fierce rivals Everton at Halton Stadium, which is the Ladies' new home for the forthcoming season.

Coverage of the clash in St Helen's begins on ESPN at 7pm GMT on Saturday, March 23. The game itself will kick off at 7.30pm.

"This couldn't be a better start to the season," insisted Beard.

"We have the first match at our new home ground against our local rivals Everton, with a totally reshaped squad - and it's live on ESPN.

"It will be a good test to see how we settle in and how we are progressing as a group. We are really hoping such an exciting fixture will attract a good crowd."

Beard was installed as boss in August 2012 and Everton's Fara Williams and Natasha Dowie soon crossed the Stanley Park divide to bolster the Reds' ranks.

Whitney Engen of USA, Icelandic international Katrin Ómarsdóttir and Gemma Bonner from Chelsea Ladies have all since arrived in time for the start of the new season.

Now in its third year, the WSL Continental Cup is formatted into two groups and sees teams face three round-robin group games.

The top two teams from each group will progress to the semi-finals, where group winners will take home advantage over the runners up of the opposing group, for a place in the final.

With tickets costing just £5 for an adult and £2.50 for children and concessions, the derby offers a perfect opportunity to experience top-class women's professional football at an affordable price.

In addition, the FA Girls' Football Festival will be coming to Halton Stadium ahead of the game from 6pm onwards.

The free event, in association with Continental Tyres, offers girls of all ages and ability the opportunity to experience football in an informal and fun environment.

There will be a range of innovative equipment including target shots and speed cages which will allow girls to test their skills.
