Liverpool FC this week passed the one-million followers mark on the Chinese social media platforms Sina Weibo and Tencent.

The Reds' millionth follower arrived on Tuesday as the club's popularity amongst fans in China continues to grow at a rapid pace, following a programme of increased daily engagement with fans on social media.

Liverpool's Sina Weibo account launched in July 2011 and 453,000 fans are now linked to the page on what is one of the most-visited online platforms in China.

Meanwhile, the Reds Tencent account, launched in December 2012, is attracting over a quarter of a million new followers a month.

The club's official accounts are not Liverpool's only presence on Chinese social-media sites.

Earlier this month, Lucas Leiva opened his own official Sina Weibo page, allowing him to conect with supporters in China - and the Brazilian has already amassed 33,300 followers.
