The Liverpool FC Foundation is supporting a project to help improve the lives of people with a disability and hosted an Assisted Living Innovation Platform (ALIP) event at Anfield.

ALIP demonstrates the breadth of innovation in assisted living products and services such as fingerprint door locks, motion sensors, picture phones and special plugs for baths.

One of the main features of the event was the 'Mi' (More Independent) 'Smart House', which was set up by Liverpool Primary Care Trust to demonstrate technology solutions to enable people to be more independent in their homes.

Liverpool FC Foundation ambassador Lucas Leiva and his wife, Ariana, attended the event and were shown more than 30 special products in the 'Smart House'.

Lucas said: "Today has been great seeing so many products that are available to make people's lives easier and safer.

"Me and Ariana are passionate about helping to improve people's lives and we are delighted that the Liverpool FC Foundation is supporting this project."

The 'Mi' programme aims to increase levels of control and self-care for people with disabilities to improve confidence and self-esteem.

Andy Hull, 'Mi' programme director, said: "We are delighted to be working with the Liverpool FC Foundation on our programme.

"Liverpool is such a major football club and has an unparalleled ability to reach the population en mass. To really engage with people on this we need to break out of the technology and health 'box' to really embed independence and self-care supported by technology.

"We want to make Liverpool the home of independence and technology that makes life easier."
