Jose Enrique says a top-four finish for the Reds remains a difficult prospect despite the victory over in-form Tottenham, but highlighted that anything is possible for the remainder of the season.

A late Steven Gerrard penalty capped a superb comeback for Brendan Rodgers' men against Spurs at Anfield, after a Jan Vertonghen double appeared to have ended the hosts' winning streak.

Liverpool are now seven points away from a Champions League berth but the squad have no intention of slowing down their chase of the league's top four teams.

"That has been the target from the start but we have to go step by step. It will be really difficult, to be honest - but we will try until the final game," the Spaniard told Liverpoolfc.com.

"We're winning games in a row already, we are doing well. We'll try to continue like that. In football, you never know."

Reflecting on the pulsating fixture, Enrique insisted that the Reds' performance - and the spirit shown in recovering from a deficit - fully merited three points at Spurs' expense.

The defender added: "Tottenham are one of the best teams in the league.

"We were playing at home but it's really difficult to come back against anyone, but more against these types of teams.

"The most important thing is the team - we worked for the team and that's why we won.

"We gave everything. After we were losing 2-1, the team came back very well.

"We saw our spirit and got the three points - that's the most important thing. We were a little bit tired, but we improved after they scored. The reaction was really good."

Elimination from European competition at the hands of Zenit St Petersburg last month means the Reds will be tasked with just one match per week for the rest of 2012-13.

Europa League glory remains in Tottenham's sights but the Londoners' extra workload played no part in Sunday's result, according to Enrique.

"Playing two games a week, two or three weeks in a row, can affect you a little bit," he concluded.

"But they did everything; they played a good game as well. But I think we were better and that's why we got the points."
