Brendan Rodgers has been proved right to predict that Liverpool would improve in the second half of the season, according to Reds goalkeeper Brad Jones.

The Australian filled in for the injured Pepe Reina on Sunday as the Reds recorded a dramatic 3-2 victory over Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield.

Three points lifted Rodgers' side up to sixth in the Barclays Premier League and registered a first triumph over a top-five team during 2012-13.

The boss consistently suggested that his players would show their worth as the campaign reached a climax and the No.1 feels that has been borne out in recent weeks.

"We wanted to go out, play well and get a result - coming up against a very good team and a team that's in form like ourselves," said the 30-year-old stopper.

"It was always going to be a tough one, trying to counter each other's attacking players.

"We had to make sure that we dug in, and be on form defensively. It was great character to come back and even better to get the win.

"The gaffer always said at the start that the end of the season would be where we're at our strongest - maybe he's had his mystic ball out because that's the way things are going at the moment.

"It's good to see. We've got the attacking players we always know will score.

"There's a real focus, we want to win every game at the moment. We want to win as many as we can and not lose any. We're on a good run and we want to continue that.

"We're taking every game as it comes - the old cliché, but it's true. You have to win against the team that's put in front of you.

"As long as we do that and keep that mentality, we keep ourselves in with a chance."

Sunday's match featured a showdown between two of England's form players - Gareth Bale and Luis Suarez.

But did Jones have to do any specific homework ahead of facing the Welsh winger?

"We've all seen how Bale hits the free-kicks, you've got to be aware of that," said the 'keeper.

"Fortunately, Stevie tends to do that as well so you get a few in training. It was a case of trying to be steady and doing the best job you can."
