Allen targets hard work rewards
Joe Allen has vowed to do everything possible on the training ground to take his game to the next level and build on a debut season of 'highs and lows'.
The midfielder has racked up 36 appearances for the Reds since completing a switch from his boyhood side Swansea in August 2012.
And despite recent news that he is set to undergo surgery to treat an ongoing shoulder injury, the 22-year-old is as keen as ever to keep working on improving his game.
"I've thoroughly enjoyed my first season and I think it has been okay overall," Allen told Liverpoolfc.com.
"There have been highs and lows but I think that is natural in a football career.
"I'm looking forward to moving on and progressing and doing well for this football club.
"I was privileged and proud to get the chance to join a club like Liverpool and haven't been let down.
"I'm obviously not the finished article - I'm far from it, so I'll try to work on every aspect of my game every day in training and work as hard as I can.
"Hopefully I will reap the rewards of doing that."
Allen is also adamant that Liverpool's 3-2 win over Tottenham will provide the boost needed to help the Reds finish the current campaign in style.
Anfield was ecstatic as the final whistle blew on Sunday to herald the Reds' first win over a top-four side in the Barclays Premier League this season.
And Allen played his own part in the victory, taking to the field in place of Philippe Coutinho on 59 minutes with his side trailing.
The midfielder's tenacity and assuredness on the ball helped stem the flow of Tottenham's attack.
Allen reflected: "Beating one of the top teams was something that we were really striving to do - a lot of focus had been put on it.
"So to do it in front of our home crowd at Anfield will hopefully give us that much-needed boost to kick on to the next level between now and the end of the season.
"I think the win will move us forward. The way the team are playing at the moment gives us great hope for next season."
