Marsh: Our method won't change
After seeing off a Champions League-chasing outfit last weekend, Liverpool will face a side hoping to avoid the Championship next season – but their approach won't change in the slightest insists Mike Marsh.
The Reds travel to Southampton on Saturday with the hosts currently 16th in the Barclays Premier League - 13 places below Tottenham, who were downed in such dramatic fashion last Sunday.
How has that changed the work Brendan Rodgers and his coaching staff have done at Melwood this week?
"It doesn't. We come into every game prepared," the first-team coach told Liverpoolfc.com.
"There are tactical changes depending on which team you're playing but we treat each team with 100 per cent respect. We prepare fully and take the game seriously.
"We're looking no further than Southampton, going there and claiming maximum points. Then we'll go again when we come back after the international break.
"The biggest game for us is Southampton. Once we get that out of the way, we can reassess.
"The manager will reinforce that point before the end of the week."
Rodgers' team secured a 1-0 victory courtesy of a Daniel Agger header when the Saints visited Anfield earlier this season, although the south coast side have since changed manager.
Mauricio Pochettino has been installed at the helm in place of Nigel Adkins, and Marsh and co have observed several tactical changes by the Argentinian.
"He's tried to change the style a little bit," Marsh added.
"They try to press the ball higher up the pitch than they have done previously instead of sitting in behind the ball and trying to play on the counter-attack with a 4-5-1 system.
"We're expecting them to come out at home and press us high up the pitch from early in the game."
The clash with Southampton is the first of nine remaining games for the Reds in 2012-13 and Marsh insists the team will attempt to clinch three points from every encounter.
"I'd like to see us win all of the games, but sometimes that's wishful thinking," he concluded.
"Every game we go into, I'd like to come away with maximum points. History will tell you that's not always the case but as long as we put 100 per cent into every game, we'll win more than we lose."
