Daniel Sturridge has set himself the target of remaining fit for the 'nine cup finals' Liverpool face between now and the end of the season.

The striker - who was named in Roy Hodgson's latest England squad on Thursday - has endured a stop-start beginning to life at Anfield but has managed five goals in eight appearances since completing a switch from Stamford Bridge in early January.

He returned to the side to face Tottenham last weekend, helping the Reds secure a 3-2 win as the quest for European football continues.

Now Sturridge is hoping to stay in the team until May.

"My fitness is fine," the 23-year-old told Liverpoolfc.com. "When I came back for the Tottenham game I trained for a couple of days prior to that. I didn't feel as sharp as I could have.

"I'm not making excuses for not performing as well as I'd have liked to have done! I'm glad the team won and I was happy to help the team.

"We've got nine games left and it's nine cup finals in my opinion. I'm hoping to remain fit and God willing I can for those nine games."
