'I'm gracious... Actually that's a lie!'
Daniel Sturridge admits he is not always the most gracious of losers - and hopes he won't experience defeat too often in a Liverpool shirt.
In typically honest fashion, the 23-year-old explained to Liverpoolfc.com that he is sometimes a bad loser...
"I am horrible in defeat!" he said. "I'm gracious in defeat when I leave the field but I hate losing so much.
"Actually, I'm probably not always gracious - that was probably a bit of a lie!
"It's dependant on the day. I can be terrible but I'm not one to point fingers at people, I'm just more frustrated in myself and with not helping the team win the game.
"Hopefully I don't have to talk about this too often and we can keep winning games between now and the end of the season and we're talking about a future with a lot of success."
Thankfully, Sturridge hasn't had to experience defeat too often since arriving from Stamford Bridge on January 2 and Liverpool are now on a four-game winning streak.
But the England forward knows the Reds cannot take anything for granted at St Mary's on Saturday despite Southampton's position of 16th in the Barclays Premier League.
"We've got to realise that Southampton have a lot to play for," he said. "You can't think, 'We won last week so this game is going to be easy.'
"They've got good players and a good manager, a young manager who is going to be very hungry to show what he can do in the Premier League.
"It's important for us to understand that we need to go out there and do a job.
"Let's focus on our game, let them worry about us, and if we do that we'll be fine."
