First Facebook page for India launched
Liverpool FC are delighted to announce that India has become the first country in the world to be granted a dedicated Facebook page by the club.
The Reds have more than 11 million fans on Facebook and as part of a programme of digital activity to increase engagement with supporters around the world in 2013, today's announcement is further good news for fans in India.
Last December, Liverpool became the first and only football club in England to launch an official Indian Twitter account and now more than half a million supporters living in India who already follow the official Liverpool FC Facebook page will automatically see the new account - and, most importantly, the content on their timeline - tailored exclusively for them.
The editorial content shared on the new Facebook page will still cover everything happening across the club but from photo albums celebrating Indian fans at Anfield to festival messages and the actual timing of updates, there will be a noticeable focus on what it means to support Liverpool in India.
The new initiative has been welcomed by Kaushal Goyal, who runs the Official Delhi Supporters' Club.
"I think LFC understands there are a massive number of fans present in India and has recently undertaken some great initiatives to reach out to us," he told Liverpoolfc.com. "The first was the Indian Twitter account - @LFCIndia - which helped by connecting us with fellow fans from across the country.
"Then a few days ago, Liverpool FC launched a region specific Facebook page for Indian fans. That in itself fills me with pride as a Liverpool fan from India but what's even more remarkable is that India is the first region to get a tailored Facebook page by the club.
"The fans now get to see pictures of fellow fans celebrating, get to know about screenings around their town, there's more localised interaction and most importantly, fans are making new friends with fellow fans from around their area. Also, there are a lot of Indian graphic artists who've shared their work with the page and the page has shared those with other fans.
"Other clubs might have a franchisee running some part of their business here like a bar but Liverpool's presence in this area is dedicated to bringing fans together and bringing them closer to the club.
"This is what sets LFC apart from any other club in the world - the fact that LFC thinks of its fans first. Here in India, we always wanted to be closer to the club and are extremely grateful that the club has reached out to us and taken such big strides."
