Reds celebrate special friendship
A party of Liverpool supporters have just returned from Germany for their seventh 'friendship visit' to Moenchengladbach to once again consolidate and enhance a very special friendship that goes back over 30 years.
Fans of the Reds and Bundesliga club Borussia Moenchengladbach established strong links following the teams' meetings in European competition during the 1970s..
Since 1992, a group of Borussia fans have travelled to Anfield every winter to support Liverpool. Meanwhile Kopites, led by organiser Graham Agg, have journeyed to Moenchengladbach annually since 2007.
In 1991 a delegation of Borussia supporters flew to Liverpool to present a cheque for 21,000 Deutsch Marks for the Hillsborough families, a gesture that has never been forgotten on Merseyside.
It is a friendship that has stood the test of time, and is absolutely unique in world football.
Organiser Agg stated: "I'd like to pass on my thanks and appreciation to all Liverpool supporters who travelled to Moenchengladbach last weekend to enhance and strengthen even further a friendship that is unique in world football.
"We had 86 Liverpool supporters in total in Gladbach at the weekend, the vast majority from the Merseyside region but also Liverpool supporters from London, Crewe, Scotland, Ireland, Holland and Belgium, as well as members of the German Reds.
"All of the supporters were fantastic ambassadors for Liverpool FC and the city of Liverpool and the weekend was once again a total success."
Special guest at this year's friendship weekend was Mary Wilcox, wife of the legendary LFC supporter Bobby Wilcox who sadly passed away in 2010.
Agg added: "It was an honour for us to have Mary present and hope she enjoyed the friendship celebrations"
