Jamie Carragher believes Luis Suarez is edging closer to being the second best Liverpool player he has played alongside.

Steven Gerrard is ranked Carragher's all-time number one.

But the more he trains with Suarez, the more the centre-back realises the Uruguayan has the ability and the spontaneity to push for second spot.

He told Liverpoolfc.com: "People always ask me: 'Who is the best player you've played with at Liverpool?'

"And that would always be Stevie, but the more I play with Luis, the more I'm thinking that he's coming second.

"The more I see of him, the way he plays and some of the things I see him do training, I really do think we've got one of the best players in the world at Liverpool.

"With Stevie, we have to enjoy him for the next two or three years and hopefully we can do the same with Luis. He's that good, I think he could play for any team in the world."

Countless Barclays Premier League defenders have tried and failed to thwart the No.7 over the past two years.

However, surely a man who will go down in Liverpool history as one of the club's finest defenders has figured out how to stop him?

"Close your legs," insisted Carragher. "I've never seen anyone nutmeg people so often.

"Honestly, I've never seen anything like it. He must do it three or four times in each training session and it's the same in a game.

"The amount of times I have seen him on the by-line, putting the ball between someone's legs, or stood on the line, pulling the ball back.

"I think you have Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo on one level. Below that level, there's Andres Iniesta, Luis [Suarez] and players like that. He's definitely in that bracket."
