Battling Joshua to be LFC mascot
When he leads out the Liverpool team against Aston Villa on Sunday, Reds captain Steven Gerrard will have a very special young supporter alongside him.
Eight-year-old Joshua Jackson, who is battling leukaemia, has been selected as the club's official mascot for the Barclays Premier League clash and will be watched by viewers from around the world.
The young Liverpool fan was first diagnosed with the condition in June 2007 but, after three years of extensive treatment, was told the cancer was in remission in 2010.
However, Joshua was forced to begin a second battle at the end of last year when the condition returned - prompting widespread support via Facebook and Twitter.
Robbie Fowler and John Aldridge have been among the many Liverpool figures to show their support for Joshua, who has amassed more than 14,000 followers on Twitter.
A campaign is also underway to have #JoshuaBeatingCancer trending on the social media website at 12pm BST on Sunday, shortly before the Liverpool-mad youngster enters the Villa Park pitch.
