Skipper backing Stephen walk
Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard has provided his backing to a charity walk which will raise funds on behalf of Alder Hey Children's Hospital in memory of Stephen Packer.
The U9s player, a huge Reds supporter, was thriving at the club's Academy before sadly losing his brave battle with cancer in November 2012.
In tribute to Stephen, a group of Academy players and staff will undergo a three-peak challenge in Yorkshire during May - a journey of more than 23 miles which they are aiming to complete in less than 12 hours.
"The club are never going to forget young Stephen Packer and his family," said the skipper.
"Of course the club are going to be there as a support network for his family, moving forward - and so are the players. If there's anything we can do to support that, we're glad to help.
"It was very sad news that touched everyone's heart. We wish you well with that project and if there's anything we can do to support it, we're available."
A volunteer team from LFC TV will accompany the youngsters on their testing trek to help raise funds and document the emotional event.
All money generated by the challenge - which has already amassed more than £1,300 - will be donated to Alder Hey, a local hospital which has received support from Liverpool Football Club for many years.
