Seven admirable charity runners passed through the Shankly Gates at Anfield on Saturday after completing 96 miles in three days in memory of those who lost their lives at Hillsborough.

For the second edition of the Hillsborough-Anfield Run, Dom Williams, Wesley Young, Scott Cunliffe, Chris Dale, Neil Mitchell, Earle Jackson and John Driscoll set off from Sheffield on Thursday.

The septet were welcomed with rapturous applause as they approached Liverpool's iconic stadium and brought to a close their incredible feat of determination and endurance.

Joining the runners for the final mile were a host of Merseyside celebrities, including singer Melanie C, heavyweight boxer David Price and impressionist Darren Farley.

Politicians Andy Burnham and Steve Rotheram, who have played key roles in uncovering the truth of Hillsborough, also provided their support by participating in the home stretch.

Family members of the 96 Liverpool supporters who died at the Hillsborough tragedy in 1989 were in attendance at Anfield too to extend their gratitude and congratulations to the group.

The money raised from the event, which already totals more than £6,000, will be donated to Alder Hey Children's hospital in Liverpool and the Children's Hospital in Sheffield.

Team leader Williams ensured Liverpoolfc.com that the run will be back for 2014 and, just minutes after his epic journey had finished, insisted he has longer and more challenging plans for next year.
