Pepe: He was extraordinary
Pepe Reina paid tribute to his fellow custodian Alex McCarthy after the Reading stopper produced a string of superb saves to deny Liverpool on Sunday.
With regular No.1 Adam Federici ruled out through injury, McCarthy came in for his first start since November to deny the likes of Luis Suarez, Steven Gerrard and Daniel Sturridge, time and time again.
The 23-year-old's heroics made it successive goalless draws for the Reds following the Anfield stalemate with West Ham United last Sunday.
Reina said: "We created enough chances to win the game by a lot of goals but credit to their goalkeeper McCarthy who was absolutely extraordinary.
"It happens in football sometimes when the opposition goalkeeper can have a day like that but we are frustrated not to have got the three points.
"The game was more open in the second half and we had enough chances to win it, so we have to be disappointed."
The Spanish stopper has now called for Liverpool to try to claim as many points as they can and end the campaign on a high.
He added: "We have to make sure we are focused on the games remaining and get the winning mentality going and try to win every game."
