Dowie delivers opening-day delight
Liverpool ladies began their Women's Super League campaign with a hard-earned 1-0 victory over Lincoln at Sincil Bank on Sunday.
Natasha Dowie's header on seven minutes proved to be the only goal of the game. The Reds forward was clinical as she turned home a pinpoint cross from Fara Williams.
Matt Beard's side dominated the first half with Whitney Engen purposefully leading the Liverpool line.
After the interval they were solid as Lincoln began to establish some form of foothold in the clash.
Carla Cantrell's dipping volley might have clinched an equaliser for the home side while Dowie went close to doubling her tally on 83 minutes.
However, the Reds held out and in the end were deserving winners on the first day of the new league season.
