Boss: I felt Hillsborough emotion
Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has reflected on the 'very sad' news of the death of Hillsborough campaigner Anne Williams, who passed away on Thursday after a battle with bowel cancer.
Anne lost her 15-year-old son Kevin at the disaster, which occurred on April 15, 1989, and launched a 24-year quest for justice which finally brought answers with the publication of the Hillsborough Independent Panel report last September
Three days before her death, Anne summoned the strength to attend the annual memorial service at Anfield, and after experiencing the event for the first time himself this week Rodgers paid a personal tribute.
"It was very sad. It was the first time I attended the service and I actually felt a real emotion in it," the boss said on Friday.
"It was great to have all the supporters and people there, the former players and managers there to support. I watched it again when I went home and you watch it again with emotion.
"To have seen Anne there and for her to pass away a few days later is very sad. She suffered for a long time, fighting for her son. The families have suffered for many years as a whole.
"We hope that in the not-too-distant future they get what they deserve, which is justice for them all. It was a very sad moment for everyone concerned. She was a great supporter of the club and she's fought a lifetime for her children and her child.
"Hopefully in the future justice will be there."
