BR: Strong finish important for 13-14
Brendan Rodgers insists Liverpool will remain as fully motivated as ever over the course of the remaining five games of 2012-13 and stressed the importance a strong finale will have on next term.
The Reds head into the final handful of games by playing host to Chelsea at Anfield on Sunday - and the manager is adamant the commitment of his charges will not waver as the campaign reaches its conclusion.
Indeed, Rodgers is eager for Liverpool to use the clash with the Londoners as an opportunity to demonstrate they are more than capable of beating the teams challenging for the league title and create a platform to work from at the beginning of next season.
He told the Liverpool Echo: "There will be no shortage of motivation for us. Every game between Liverpool and Chelsea is a big game and Sunday will be no different. There will be all sorts of emotion on the day but once the game starts the players will be very focused.
"The boys are really looking forward to playing at Anfield again and we feel that we can win every game there. There will be a brilliant atmosphere and we'll be up against a very good Chelsea side.
"We have been unfortunate in a lot of the matches against the top teams this season, but we showed against Tottenham at home that we can beat that type of opponent. We've got that belief.
"This is another opportunity for us to show we have the qualities to beat one of the sides up there challenging.
"We've got five games left and we want to win all five. It's very important for us to finish the season as strongly as we can.
"Okay, we won't have a trophy this season but it's about putting a platform in place for next season."
Liverpool go into the game on the back of successive goalless draws with West Ham United and Reading.
Rodgers admits work is on-going in training to improve the Reds' cutting edge in front of goal - while he's satisfied with the defensive side of his team's game.
He added: "We've worked in training on trying to be more aggressive in the final third. We're creating plenty of chances and I'm confident we've got goals in us.
"The other side of it is we're keeping a lot of clean sheets. That's 13 now and our target this season was to get to 15. There's a solid base for us to work from."
