'He transformed the game'
Liverpool legend John Aldridge believes Daniel Sturridge 'transformed the game' when he came on as a half-time substitute against Chelsea on Sunday.
Sturridge was introduced at the interval with the Reds a goal down and the former Chelsea forward made an instant impact, hitting the post with a left footed-drive before tapping home a Luis Suarez cross to tie the game.
Aldridge wrote in his column in the Liverpool Echo: "Sturridge made a huge difference in the second half. You could see how determined he was to impress and prove a point to the manager.
"He hit the post before taking his goal really well. Sturridge then produced a brilliant cross to pick out Luis Suarez for the late equaliser.
"Brendan Rodgers would have been delighted with the way he responded to losing his place in the side. You have got to do your talking on the field and Sturridge did that."
Though hugely impressed by Sturridge, Aldridge stopped short of calling him the man of the match in the 2-2 draw, instead giving that accolade to Jamie Carragher.
"I thought Carragher was absolutely outstanding as he ensured Fernando Torres had a woeful afternoon," he added.
"He has been in so many battles with Chelsea over the years and you could see how desperate he was to get something out of the game. We left it late but we deserved a point for that second-half performance."
